Ok but certainly losing steam. Light ruby with a clear rim. The nose is the highlight - beautiful red fruit, earth and violet. Pure. The palate is lean but broadens with air. Still, it’s a tad rough, rustic and green. Fruit has receded a bit too much exposing the inner spine. Better with food. Not up to past bottles. Drink up! (86)

Based on my last bottle about 2 years ago, I opened this just a little before dinner and did not decant. Served in Grassl Cru stems. At first, we both got a little heat and woody-ness, maybe some green tannins along with some nicer notes of bright red berries. There was also a bit VA on first sniff, which faded quickly. To try and combat the harshness, we cooled the remainder of the wine down a few degrees which turned out to help a lot. The structure of the wine is dominating the fruit right now, I think, and there were some funny oscillations - open then shut down, red fruit then black fruit - but once it settled the wine showed some adolescent attractiveness. I liked the gingerbread and candied cherry notes, and a surprising note of scotch whisky which came in near the end. At this stage, this is a one-two punch, not much complexity, but some good flavor and persistence. I'm on the fence about what kind of development is ahead. It will certainly keep for a decade or more. I'll wait to see what kind of development might occur. I'm not giving up on it yet! I know this note is coming off as negative - in truth, we did enjoy drinking this wine with a nice seared duck breast and roast radishes. I just expected a bit more based on producer and the much more charming bottle I had in 2020. Could be an awkward phase. Time will tell.

Patio Dining at Tilia on a Warm Fall Evening (Tilia, Mpls): Dark red color. PNP, Drank a glass over an hour plus. Funny, but my thoughts mirror Chablis28's perfectly with no table talk at whatsoever. The nose shows red fruits, light dried flowers, and some allspice. The palate has nice red fruits, tart cherry, a little sappy and spicy, but rather simple.

Perfectly sound, balanced & elegant burgundy. But lacking that little extra depth you expect from Mugneret-Gibourg. A recent '17 delivered head turning complexity. Not sure why this '06 isn't killer 15yrs out???

(Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg Vosne-Romanée) Dark cherry red color; bright cherry, mineral nose; tasty, tart red fruit, lifted, rosehips palate with medium acidity; medium finish 91+ pts.
(Mugneret-Gibourg Georges Vosne-Romanée) Higher-toned thatn the aromas of the two 07's, with slightly redder fruit than the 07 Echézeaux. A little more structure, plenty of fine tannin, but equally good fruit. This seems more guarded or tighter but it's clearly very good.

the last of my bottles and both were holding up reasonably well - still a decent core of fruit - delicious!
