Strangely enough, this little Côtes de Bourg did quite well hidden into a tasting of 2013-14 reds that included a few Côtes du Rhônes and some California proprietary bottlings. In fact, none of the tasters could detect it was the older wine among them, and they were all relatively experienced wine aficionados — certainly an embarrassment to me as I should've been able to pick it out. A key factor, of course, is that it was stored well. This goes to show that even little wines from a great vintage, such as 2005, can far exceed their "drink by" date and evolve to yield pleasant surprises.
