  • Not just once but twice in the past week have we delved deep into the cellar for an older Willamette pinot noir (there are too many and some must be culled). In this case the presumed flagship vineyard of White Rose, from an era of the dragon labels and affordable prices.

I always open these with a twinge of anxiety, wondering what the passing years may have wrought on the wine. Again, my fears were unfounded. Brilliant ruby red with just a hint of brick around the rim but certainly not the color of oxidation and age. The aroma perhaps a tinge muted compared with a younger version. On the palate was the biggest surprise with abundant bright cherry fruit with a mingling of baking spice. Compared with the Archery Summit 2004, whose flavors were more of the oak perhaps than the fruit, this was dominated by the fruit. How many more years? I would estimate several.

  • Another piece of Copper River, another White Rose; that is the way we roll. Marched a little back in time from the '11 Maresh consumed with the first one. Ebullient, perfumed aroma, floral notes, clear ruby, lush cherry predominant, moderate acid. At first, the acidity was insufficient to match Dulcie's dressing and only subsequent to the meal did the wine really shine - which it did. We could have used the '11 tonight.

  • This wine is expressive and very serious o the nose. It offers scents of exotic spices, dusty earth, underbrush, mushroom, dusty choocolate, coffe, strawberry, honey, beets and dry river rock. On the palate is elegantly structured but complex and is very well integrated. It is ageing very well. Drink now or hold for 1 year. OUTSTANDING.

  • Bouquet was earthy and the original multiple fruit aromas are blending into a perfectly royal Pinot noir! Full bodied but very smooth retaining a touch of licorice after tones. Ready to drink now but will still improve over the next 3-5 years

  • This wine has been 4 years in bottle and still feels like a baby but it is joining all of its elements in an impressive way. On the nose it shows notes of mocha chocolate, damp earth, underbrush, tobacco, clove, nutmeg, red strawberry, cherry, cola, dusty white pepper and a hint of wet river stone. I has an incredible velvety and silky palate feel with a strong backbone supported by acidity and flavors of brown spices and minerals. All of the elements are coming into place but could easily support an additional 3 or 4 years of correct ageing. Extremely enjoyable now.
