  • This wine is actually called The Wine Society's Generation Series Wachenheimer Riesling to celebrate their 150th anniversary.

"One of our oldest partners in Germany is Bürklin-Wolf of Wachenheim in Germany's Pfalz region. To mark our 150th anniversary, and indeed our long partnership, the Bürklin-Wolf team has bottled a riesling from a single foudre (a cask much larger than a barrel) from two top vineyards; Gerümpel and Goldbächel.

This is a dry riesling, as members of long ago would have savoured, with hints of peach and lime. The reputation of this famous estate was made in the 20th century by the formidable Dr Bürklin-Wolf with his great sweet wines. Under his daughter Bettina's guidance all the wines are now fully fermented out and dry, and the vineyards are farmed organically-biodynamically, without herbicides or pesticides." 12% ABV.

Colour: v light gold, bright, clear.
Nose: full, fresh, ripe, citrus, mainly lime,
Taste: light body, sleek, citrus, lime and grapefruit, good ripe fruit, almost Clare Valley style, bone dry it seems with good acidity, med finish, v dry, grapefruit, almost a touch of reduction.
Overall, v enjoyable and still young. V pure and sleek, as it should be given the vineyard provenance.
