  • Presented blind, the most pertinent sensation is atmospheric elevation, or at least somewhere moderate in climate, in soil well drained. I'm not sure if that describes its origin, but that's how it drinks. Pinot Noir typicity here is thoroughly buried under appealing grape flavor. I notice inclinations of shaded stone, menthol stem, and black tea. Aromatic, this wine was brought to the bottle in robust health; I would wait 2 years before drinking another (if I had one.)

  • 1 of 6. I have been pestering my Detroit-area winemongers for 2-3 years to restock this wine for me. I don't recall what previous vintage I drank, but i was mad for its purity of flavor in a northern context. Finally events conspired reward my search. I had a taste a month or two ago and it seemed somewhat shrill, so when I finally opened a bottle several days ago I gave it a good hard decant, and didn't rush it onto the table. Despite that it was better after it had been opened for an hour or two, and the last 40% of the bottle was just fine the next evening. While the aromas are not especially developed (yet, I hope), that northern purity is very much evident. Can we agree that Pinot Noir, when done right, has certain characteristics of flavor that are as distinctive as any grape's. This wine captures that distinctiveness in a cool manner that doesn't carry any other baggage. So I look forward to the other bottles, and imagine that I will return to this wine in the next six months.
