Community Tasting Notes (1)

  • Haven't had a Gahier in quite a while. Looks like the prices have shot up quite a bit. He's one of those that takes swings. Some wines seem broken. Some seem beautiful. I love this when the wines are affordable and you can take that risk buying. When the prices creep into the territory where you expect something good, then its can be quite irritating. Its my biggest beef with the no-dose, no sulfur Champagne makers. This wine certainly smacks of VA in a big way. But underneath there is some compelling, sweet fruit. Its got that natty thing on the nose a bit. Its like you really really want it to be just reductive stank so it will integrate with time but in your heart you know all that dense fruit has probably been wasted. I guess there is some universe where the fruit outlives the yucky parts. My cellar is not in that universe.
