Nose: Leather, mushrooms and a different kind of funk.. an old kind of funk but not so much in a bad way. Also notes of old, dried flowers.
Palate: Fruit tastes like it's in the process of slowly fading away, but still there. Dried earth, a little bit of sweet almond and some spice.
Medium ruby with slight bricking. Dry with smooth, integrated tannins with a still a slight grip. Light body with medium-minus acidity. Good finish of ab out 7-8 seconds. Smooth from the age and still enjoyable. Might be already past it's prime though but seems to still have some vitality remaining.

This old soldier is inky purple in the glass with garnet at the edges. Reserved nose of blackberry, forest, chocolate and wet stones. On the palate it is soft cherry, blackberry and caramel with a backbone of minerality. Tannins definitely rounded but still have a bite. Feels a bit past its peak, a bit off balance but still very enjoyable. Long finish. Compared to the '99 Silver Oak Napa we had recently, this is more Bordeaux style than California, but less well put together.

Refined and mature. Dried red fruit, earth, leather, tobacco on the palate. Brick red around the edges. It is balanced, medium-full bodied. Integrated tannins. Absolutely beautiful and would easily be mistaken for an aged Bordeaux as someone else said. Was perfect with white truffles. Drink now.

Stag's Leap Library Wine Tasting (Heritage Gallery - Chicago IL): Walk around tasting, all direct from the winery. Soft, fun and easy to enjoy. Perhaps some new oak isn't fully absorbed.
