  • Typical Vogue style with dark fruit spectrum and hint of earthiness. It possessed good power on the palate while the nose flattered with oak spice, dark currant and wilted fresh flowers. Happily in the drinking zone but curious to see how age would add some nuance to it.

  • 1st of 6, CORKED, just possible to detect something good underneath......sinked!!!! NB a decanted half proved the point the following night; the smell was disgusting.

  • Drank at Batard in Hong Kong. Provenance ex-Domaine. Wow, what an Amoureuses, what a wine!

I have had mixed experiences with Vogüé in the past across a range of their wines, and have always found them to be in need of age and often very grumpy and inapproachable in their youth; however when they fall off a cliff they really do fall - hence finding one in its sweet spot is essential when drinking Vogüé.

Luckily, this was absolutely in its prime. When done properly Les Amoureuses truly is the most elegant expression of Chambolle: abundant red fruit wafiting from the glass - almost strawberry-like - and entirely weightless. Tannins were perfectly integrated, whilst it was balanced by a beautiful minerality that helped the taste linger in the mouth long after you drank it.

Perhaps the only thing stopping it from reaching an even higher score was just how effortless it was - the greatest Musignys will have more 'oomph' to it, but I was not complaining at all.

In short, an incredible wine which has single-handedly reshaped my views about the Domaine. The hype is real - if you can pick the right wine during the right window. Be patient and give Vogüé enough time.

  • The 2001 de Vogue Les Amoureuses is incredibly polished and silky. Fragrant array of delineated red fruits, rose tea and a touch baking spices. Classy Premier Cru weight with a gorgeous bouquet superior to the declassified Musigny and Bonnes Mares. Drink now – 2041. (90-91/100)

  • Drank in London
Incredible balance and finesse. An absolute beautiful wine. Was better than GCs lined up beside it.

(Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses) Deep cherry red color; reticent incense, earthy nose; tasty, deep, youthful, cherry, raspberry palate; medium-plus finish (more complex than the '00)
