My second bottle. Following on from my last note, I had a little trouble with the cork on this bottle. It broke half way, but I was able to extract the bottom half intact. This bottle was much further down the tertiary path than the last bottle. Still good, but definitely starting to show dried fruit flavours.

I saw in the comments there is some variability in the corks. My bottle's cork was intact, and the wine was amazing. AMAZING. Deliciously jammy, like an SA shiraz. Reminds me of Bin 150 or Mt Edelstone, which is odd for a cab sav. Really Delicious.

From 75cl, rotten cork as in previous bottle (TN 12.04.2020), broke into dust; decanted off heavy sediment. Why a respected Aussie producer was still bottling under shoddy cork in this vintage, many years after the screwcap revolution, is beyond my comprehension. Stewed blackcurrant fruit and a hint of mint on the nose; thick-textured, syrupy blackcurrant-blackberry juice on the entry (there must be some Syrah in there?); thereafter it's a nosedive: sugary-bitter-musty mid-palate, offputting, false-tasting finish. For 28 EUR back in the day (purchased on release, perfect storage) this isn't a great advertisment for Yalumba, and is one of the poorer Coonawarra CS I can remember tasting in this price range. The back label gives a drinking date until 2022 – so why didn't the producer use an appropriate closure? If you were fortunate in the cork-lottery your bottle might still be holding up better. But I wouldn't wait too long before opening, all the same. 85P

Probably kept this a bit too long. Still very drinkable but not as good as previous bottles.
