Tawny Port color, dark opaque brown. Aroma: Closed nose, musty, damp forest, mushroom, leather, raisin with long air exposure. Palate Entry: High acid and tannin, concentrated plum juice. Mid-Palate: Pepper Spice, clove, soy sauce, cola. Finish: oxidative, short, oak, gritty tannin, butter. Maybe in shutdown phase? Muted aroma and taste like bad port. Revisit in a few more years.

Popped and poured and gave a 2 hour aeration before drinking to allow it to open up. Colour is still a nice garnet, transparent, not inky or thick. Aromas of currants, cherries and wood spices. Getting a touch oxidative aromas as well but this blows off over time. This is medium to full-bodied in a modern Rioja style. Tannins are still fierce, grainy and drying. Underneath you still get some red and black fruits with spices and a touch of minerality. Then the tannins come roaring in and take over. Medium acidity. Good length on the finish. A touch oxidative comes and goes (on some sips but disappears on others). Day 2 the wine becomes much tastier and a lot of the negatives disappear. Day 1 …. 86 points Day 2 ….. 90 points However this is not a wine I will look to buy again.
LOL ... I lied. I have bought several other vintages of Orben and have enjoyed them.

Still a dark garnet almost to the rim. Clearly oxidative on the nose. Rich dark fruit on the palate but still oxidative. Tannins are integrated given the rich dark fruit. Not sure what to make of this as I have followed this wine for many years, a modern styled Rioja, seemingly never ready until its oxidized...?

Consistent notes with last bottle. This needs more time.
