Kentish Feast (Petts Wood): Served from magnum. Mid-shoulder level and cork totally soaked through. Colour - garnet with a little bricking, this is not showing its age. Initial taste test - this is solid, well put together. Served after an hour or so - still holding itself together. Definitely some "old wine" character - some bonfire, but still focused and together, there's tobacco and cedar and tapenade. Reading other notes - I think we were lucky with this one, and doubtless being in magnum helped, but this is lovely stuff.

Lovely, classic claret with a richly pencil-filled nose and, though that note dominates, there’s plenty of nuance to support with cedar, coal, and creme de cassis. Beef blood, subtle bell pepper, and leather develop on the palate, which is perhaps a little hollow in the middle… nevertheless, there’s nice flavor and the tannins have nearly melted away. The finish offers toasted almond and pencil, with surprising persistence. Alas air is no friend to this; after a couple of hours brett dominates. Single-owner half bottle with a base neck fill and pristine cork.

Decanted for 60 min. Nose: lots of red fruit still present after all these years. Palate: still some red fruit left but not nearly as much as on the nose. Not too many dimensions left in this wine. Tannins practically all gone. I usually like blended and subtle tannins in older wines but this one is starting to more than subtle. Som very light leather flavors perceived…but as light and subtle is this wine, it’s very very long…flavors stoking around in your pallet for a good minute if you allow it. Past it’s prime but still an enjoyable bottle.

Cork completely soaked but sealed well. No decanting. On the palate leather, mud but no fruit left. Acidity relatively high. Was an enjoyable bottle but not great and definitely well past peak. Died after 1 1/2 hours in the glass/bottle.

In my limited experience I always enjoy the way Clerc Milon is a wine that is light on its feet. Even as I recognize that the house style leans more toward elegance than power, perhaps this vintage is just on the downhill side. Still delicious but, even for me, missing a little oomph.
