  A feminine and finessed Volnay that was more Chambolle-like with strawberries, violets and iron. It had generous fruit on the palate without the high acid character of the vintage.

  Another excellent bottle. Chilled it a little which was a good idea. Light fragrant wild strawberries a little tertiary development. Pure and vigourous on palate. Gentle sweet fruit with long elegant finish. Delicious now but no hurry.

  Such a pretty wine, really the definition of Volnay. This wasn't as structured as the 1995 that we had last year but was really pretty example.

  Gwen's belated birthday: Stylistically very similar to the ‘95 alongside. Beautiful, lifted aromatics with a little VA, seamless and ethereal palate of resolved fruit with some hawthorn notes. Had the trademark ‘96 acidity. Love these makers who can make such finessed wines. Wonderful showing.

  My last bottle from a case bought during EP. This wine pretty much cruised at same plateau for the last 10 years. Best nose for tonight’s tasting, silky, smooth, elegant and good balance, a wonderful Volnay. Masterful wine making skills.
