  • Opened 2 hours in advance. No signs of of tiredness. No stewed notes. Fairly austere. Charcoal, stone dust, some rose and red fruit.

  • Great fruit. Peaked at about 90 minutes. Touch of VA. Seemed a little clunky once the 82 Gaja got rolling next to it.

  • The Granbussia was a rich, powerful wine, deeply flavored with the earth and braised herbal notes that are so typical of Bussia. Deep and leathery, with dark fruit ivy and braised meat aromas lending complexity. It was perhaps a bit past peak int he flavor profile, but not structurally as this remained tannic, chewy and bright with both an intense, savory depth and a fine lemon peel note on the finale.

  • Strong nail polish upon opening which had me worried, however it blew off after some ten minutes leaving behind a stunning mature Granbussia.
This is drinking at peak for my taste. The first hour the nose was very secondary, even tertiary with worn leather, old books, tar, forest floor and cedar. With air, however, that lush A. Conterno fruit kept growing, and offered an amazing profile of sweet cherries, lingonberry, blood orange in supplement to the mature aromas from earlier. Just a textbook mature Barolo nose.
Palate had quite dry tannins at first, but softened as well with air, becoming more supple and quite perfectly integrated. I often find thougher tannins in top old Barolos, this was just wonderful and so drinkable. Very long finish carried by cherries and forest floor.
Drink this now if you, like me, prefer the mature elements and fruit in perfect balance. 96/97

  • Neb Vinous Bring a Great Barolo (Il Buco, NYC): [Double-decanted around 12:30 pm.] Nose of dark fruit and violets. Much more tannic than the 1990 Colonello. Needs 5-10 to finish resolving the tannins. Expansive and complex. 94-96
