Tones’ 75th Birthday Bash: Wasn’t planning to bring this to the tasting but when moving this magnum in the cellar noted dampness around the capsule and figured better to check it out ASAP. Was happy to find the wine in great shape still on decanting. In fact, my notes are nearly identical to the one here from 7+ years ago, also from a mag. Xavier94’s note is from this bottle. He was fortunate to enjoy the last half bottle (again, from this mag) with me two days later and the wine was still going strong. 94+

Great cross section between secondary and tertiary flavors with nougat, brown sugar and leather with hallmark sous bois aromatics to the spicy orange-inflected top note to the remaining fruit. This is certainly dense as you’d expect for Clos Vougeot but there is a spicy character that keeps this fine and away from the rustic stuff. Beet Bourguignon and Worcestershire come about with the root vegetable undertones of this wine. Delicious!

From magnum: dark garnet color browning at the edge with a small clear rim; classy old dark fruited nose with meat and spices; classic flavor profiles for an old burg with some grip to the texture even still; nice finish with a sweetness to it. But the nose is the kicker on this bottle. Happy to have one last mag of this.
