  • My last bottle. This was one of the top wines from a good but lower tier producer. Deep gold color with aromas of stewed pears. No real petrol notes and the acidity was rather low in this 22 year old wine. It had a creamier texture than before but seemed more one dimensional. This was better when it was closer to 10 years old. 84 points.

  • I bought a few of these wines back in 2002 for $11 each. I opened my forst of these bottles last weekend at a Vietnamese restaurant with some friends. I had the pleasure of meeting Stefan Bollig in March 2002 in Chicago at a barrel tasting of some of his 2001 wines including one of his Auslese from the Goldtropfchen vineyard. He is among the new generation of Mosel vintners and devoted to his craft. His family has been producing wine since the 17th Century and Stefan has been in charge since 1987. His family owns 10 acres of steep slatey vineyards. Hard work, dedication, new cellars and investments in new equipment have improved the quality of wines from this estate. Very few small producers are able to estate bottle their own wine using modern low-pressure tank presses which are necessary for producing a clear and clean must. This clean pure expression of fruit comes through in his wines. Not decanted or given any air. This was a pale gold color. i did not detect any petrol notes in the wine yet. This was still filled with primary fruit notes and sweet. Not dessert sweet though. Notes of green apple, flint and white peaches. enough acidity to hold it all together. 91 points.
