A private dinner (Restaurant Dinner by Heston Blumenthal **, London, UK): Mourvedre with Grenache and some Carignan, 14% ABV. Deep and impressive nose, open and expressive, black fruit, rosemary and thyme, minerals, flowers (lilies and violets), very clean and precise, barely noticeable oak provides warmth, hint of leather; soft and silky attack, real old-vine creaminess, wonderful freshness and balance, seamless but with perfect tannic grip, elegant; very good length, precise finish. Its age does it justice.

Deep nearly opaque violet color with dark fruit, and herbal aromas. On the palate, balanced, medium-bodied with fine grained well integrated tannins, good acidity, and bright, persistent black currant, dark raspberry, mineral and spice flavors. Medium finish. Wonderful wine for the table and a nice value @ $20!

Ruby red colour with a ripe forward nose, full of black fruits, cherry and cigar smoke. Packed with berry fruit, good structure from the grippy tannins and a good length finish. Very good.

This wine is front-loaded, and thus just a so-so value for the price. Still, fairly nice when you need a break from more conventional blends and appellations, and you have to give the wine a special commendation just for the authentic expression of terroir.

Dark red-violet color. Wet stones, asian spices, tart red fruit, Mourvedre Meat©. Meaty, rustic, garrigue, with just a bit of red fruit. The mid palate is weak and thin, mouth feel the same with only a touch of redeeming silkiness. Finish is shortish with an unfortunate bitterness.
