High shoulder. Corked soaked through. Excellent deep rich color that read 30 years younger. Shy on the nose—even after 3 hours of air. Smooth and plush on the palate. Coffee, dark fruit, touch of iodine and a metallic streak. Super impressed.

First of four half bottles. After removing the capsule, I realized that the cork had dropped. Well; this is one of the wonderful things about lead capsules: they can form a truly great seal so that even in the absence of a cork the wine is protected. Mid-neck fill. Remarkably, the wine showed no ill effect from the cork having dropped. Not decanted although, even in this format, the wine would have supported it. This was a great example of a '59 Graves. This wine showed great structure and textural richness. Clearly a traditional style but what else would you expect ( or want) from a '59. Absolutely nothing green about this wine. A pronounced empyreumatic side to this wine but also evolved fruit, a gravelly aspect as expected and spices. Tremendous length and texture; No particular rush to drink.

A beautiful example of mature Pessac-Leognan, the 1959 Pape-Clement shows a gorgeous nose of currant, smoldering fire embers, leather, capsicum, and loam. Light on its feet, the time to drink these is now - but what a beautiful mature Pessac experience it provides.

1959 dinner. Drinkable, but green.

Achim's Magnum Tasting 2015 (Behrens am Kai in Düsseldorf 1 star restaurant): fresh roasted aromas, leather, tobacco, coffee, not as great as the 61 ones in depth and concentration, good length
