Double decanted for sediment, and poured through a tea strainer. Colour - somewhat advanced, garnet with some bricking, and not very clear - as though there were a fine sediment in there. Lots going on on the nose - cedar, bramble - maybe a hint of fresh sap? On the palate - classic claret cedar and cigar box, good acidity and surprising tannins. If I were to guess blind I think I'd go for a younger, slightly grander wine - perhaps an 01 or 04 from Talbot of Leoville Barton.

Dark ruby red. Wonderfully cool masculine scent, fine tobacco and leather, coffee, a dark black fruit; graphite and some thyme. On the palate corresponding aromas; the wine is very clean with a good freshness, the tannins are wonderfully melted, but still present. Beautiful, medium plus acidity. This is - besides 2005 - the best Belgrave of the last 30 years. Now in a perfect drinking window. Classic Claret. Incredibly good price-performance ratio.

Blind , decanting for 2 hours : Colour was red with some hints of orange and brown . Nose was really nice : Lots of shooting powder and graphit in the beginning , with nice earthy tones , more red currant ! , fresh , eucalyptic , more other red fruits tones . Get this beautifull nose during the whole tasting ! Taste itself is nice , with some red currant , earthy and spicy tones . Acid is little force , missing the sweet tones from the year . Tannics are good integrated , getting force during drinking . I has thought that this is a not the year 1996 because of the little unbalanced acid . My idea was a better chateau from a worse year like 1991 or 1994 . Looks a little similar to the Lynch Moussas from 1996 , which has a great nose , too , but tastes really slim for this big year in the medoc region . Drink now untill the next five years . 17 points ( nose 18,5 points !! )

Smooth, ripe, cedary - not unlike the 89 Las Cases we had a few days earlier

Terrific showing, grip, cedar, earth and depth.
