  • intense nose, light petrol notes. Palate very nice, still vibrant, deep apricot flavor yet light on its feet with nice acidity, perfectly balanced off-dry sweetness. Wonderful. 93 pts

  • These are so good. What a great vintage for Willi Schaefer Spatlese. I think this is in perfect shape right now and ready to go; can’t imagine this getting a whole ton better but there’s also no rush to drink this. The acidity here is quite high but in perfect balance. This wine will continue to stay here just on its acidity alone. Perfect golden color, streaks of mineral freshness throughout. Delish.

  • Jerk Chicken @ Salil's (Vernon, CT): Deep yellow in color, with notes of hay, peaches and petrol. A bit more advanced, flavor wise than I would expect from the vintage, but... true to the vintage, this had beautiful acids, piercing and precise. Lengthy finish, with a nice slatey streak running through it. Tangy, lip-pursing and cut. Not sure if I would age this more, as the palate seemed evolved, but the acids sure seem like it would act to preserve this wine.

  • Not quite the knockout showing I experienced from this a few years back, but really enjoyable all the same. The appearance and nose suggest something a bit more advanced than I'd expect from a 2001; it's bright gold in colour with a rather prominent smoky and burnished topnote to the ripe citrus and peachy fruit, but there's still a lot of freshness to the fruit with mineral and floral accents emerging with more air, and no shortage of acidity, particularly on the back end where it finishes with just a hint of sweetness and tremendous length.
