  • The last of 2 cases bought by mistake in 2010 (I thought it was the white)....and one of my best mistakes. This is the best bottle but every one has been a delight to drink for its light, feminine, fruit-driven but very classy character. Age has progressively brought greater sweaty sous-bois to the nose and more harmony with the strawberry-driven fruit. The palate has developed considerable sophistication since the tannins have harmonised, although there is still good structure here and, belatedly, I realise that this has at least 5 more years to get better in terms of its lightness and power balance.

  • A delightful dusky transparent lamb’s blood colour with no bricking. Nose is delightful perfumed woodland wild strawberries, soil recently dampened by light rain and a touch of high-toned acetone freshness. Palate is rich, rounded and seductive silky essence of wild strawberry harmonized with firm charred oak and a good tannic but supple backbone. This is a light summer wine but with a real serious structure behind it. Light finish and moderate length but very engaging. This has harmonized beautifully since I last drank it in 2010. Impeccably made. Impossible not to like…. even though I bought 2 cases mistakenly thinking I had ordered the white wine of the same marque! Wow…. this is gorgeous early-drinking and affordable Burgundy 1er cru. If only every red Burgundy was of this affordability and quality.

  • Chinese New Year Dinner ("The Dining Room", Aberdeen Marina Club, Hong Kong): Double-decanted a couple of hours in advance then served as an aperitif instead of champagne as a bit of a change for the Chinese New Year. Bright and vibrant semi-transparent ruby red colour. Nose of wild forest strawberries combined with rasberries and a touch of sous-bois. Palate is similar fruits enveloped in a nicely fresh and vibrant acidicy and warm tannins frame. No great length but very enjoyable. Should age well for a few more years.
