We sipped at NUR in Hong Kong. You have to be a little different to sip an 11 year old Chardonnay from a place you did not even know existed until you noticed the appellation on the wine list, checked it on Google Maps and chatted with the sommelier. We like being different so we took a punt.
A straw, yellowish-brown on the eye. We expected not to be able to see through the bottle, but this was very encouraging and scary at the same time. No refund policy - not mega-expensive - but we could be unhappy!
Nose was nicely (yes, we wrote that) oxidised. Thick, creamy notes of over-ripe, very dry pears and burnt honey. Heavy, but pleasant, dose of toasty-oak indicates probably a fair amount of time in barrels.
Palate was creamy, thick, full-bodied, pear and green apple nectar with some vanilla. Tres yummy for our palates...did not sit well with some of the sippers who prefer some more vivid fruit. Eh...
A fun experience. We would not suggest this vintage at this point in time to many people. Having said that, we would highly recommend this wine, perhaps with 5 to 7 years laying down, to anyone keen on a luscious Chardonnay!

(Vineyard 7 & 8 Chardonnay 8, Spring Mountain, Napa Valley) Intense, mountain-grown fruit is transformed by the hands of winemaker Luc Morlet, formerly of Peter Michael Winery, and his assistant Wesley Steffens, formerly of Harlan Estate, into a rich, full-bodied, vibrantly fruity yet bone-dry and minerally Chardonnay. It is not white Burgundy, but it may well fool you in a blind tasting. Hot Picks
