  • Decent cabernet sauvignon - there's always a suspicion that these mid range argentinean red wines sees too much oak; in this case 80 % new french oak and 20 % american oak, for a year, which is a lot, depending on the quality of the fruit and the extraction, I guess without being an expert.

The nose offers classic cassis, plum, moccha notes - mostly fruit and not very complex. On the palate, this feels quite young and fresh. Oak is quite present but rather well integrated, and one would ideally like to put this down for another couple of years to see if it further evolves. The problem is the tannins, which are overpowering, dry, and harsh. Agree with the previous note suggesting that this might do better with some smokey bbq. But as far as south american cab's in this price range, I will try something else next time...

  • Very rich and concentrated flavors of black currant, chocolate, tobacco, plum, licorice and spice layered in a smooth, velvety palate. Very impressionable and memorable. Drink from 2011 to 2018.

  • NobleRottersSydney - South America (Alio's, Surry Hills): [cork, 13.5%, A$40] The nose is light, fresh and clean. Modern new world cabernet with a shiny smile. Decently rich on the palate, with plenty of mid-palate presence. Soft powdery tannins, a touch of cabernet herb flavour, but always ripe. Nice enough, but kinda pricey…

  • Deep, dark purple color. Typical south-american cabernet nose, showing raspberries over a bottom layer of cow droppings. Very one-dimensional flavor profile with almost no evolution, boring, dry, green, with bitter tannins that unveil at the end, along with some spicy notes and a little residual heat. May do some good if served along with BBQ steaks, which was not my case today.
