PnP - pretty tightly spooled and not giving much interest. Perhaps it comes alive a bit in the glass, but suspect this may need a very long decant, or more cellar time. Dark fruit, tannin and acid, but not particularly integrated on the palate - not awful but not a lot of interest - was expecting more.

2016 Athens Wine Event (Paleo Reastaurant, Piraeus): Tasted Blind. We had zero clue what this wine is. And having tried this wine 3 times now it always has this feeling. Dark, dense, solid and aeration did very little to develop it. Massive wine, dark fruited. Rich fruit and oak. Unfortunately unlike the 2004 we tried a few years ago this didn't work, it was a little bit on the muted and dull side and had nothing of the exciting side the 2004 (Papies 94) had. A good 90 for us this one.

Decanted for 2.5 hours. This is a massive wine and one needs to like this level of fruit extract, richness and oak. We found it a bit blunt, charmless and with very little complexity. Just a big block of well made powerful fruit bomb. At least the acidity was there to keep things in order. The wine has nothing to do with any syrah or for the matter of fact shiraz we have ever come across.. 90?

In a great window but at least 5 years left. A classic Maremma wine.
