Blind. Old Rioja, maybe even ‘54. Mellow, church pews, cool leather and a hint of the fireside. Good acidity providing the line. There’s lots to like here and though it’s on a gentle down slope it’s holding on well. Turns out to be a 58 Riscal Reserva, and far better than a previous bottle of this five years ago. (*)***

Like Vinomane's notes this was a lovely gently fading but still worthwhile Rioja. Good label and reasonable level. Lasted beautifully throughout a meal. Well stored bottles will hold.........

Faded label but good fill. Cork needed Durand. Very sound and improved in the glass. However, lacked the complexity of the previous bottle. Still a great bargain. No more of this wine, but well-stocked on old classic style Riojas in general.

Top shoulder fill. Cork pressed whole into bottle at first pressure, yet wine is perfectly sound. Extremely clean oak background, with cherry, berry, and leather teasing around on that dance floor, then gaining weight with air. Mature with no hint of decline. A great auction bargain.

Dense garnet. Nose is a little muddy. Palate too. Sadly this hasn't quite held up as it could have done. Something a bit musty too. No better than **
