  • Big, lush, cola flavors. Not really what I was expecting.

  • This seems to be in a pretty good place right now. Drinking well on the pop, though even better an hour or two later. On the nose, relatively fresh, with a hint of funk playing a nice foil against otherwise sweet and aromatic pinot fruit. On the palate, relatively high alcohol, but still achieves a sense of balance and Oregon typicity. As compared to California offerings of similar alcohol content, this one is downright well-behaved. Not as earthy or pungent as some from Oregon, but not as overly extracted as many from California. I suspect that many Oregon fans might turn up their nose at this for the alcohol levels, but for me, this strikes a nice balance. That said, I don't this has the overall structure for long-term aging. I would say "drink now or in the next 12 months".

Thanks to my friend Aleks for introducing me to this bottling.

  • Anam Cara Vertical Tasting (Dietra's House, Portland OR): Decanted 1 hour. Color is a bright ruby, shimmering in the glass. Nose of black cherry, oak and some pepper(?). In the mouth, this wine is tight and oaky, despite the decanting time. Black cherry flavors rule the roost, with some leather and pepper and a sharply tannic finish.
