  • Labor Day Blinds at Tim's (SF): Ashish’s dark white.
    Clear, cloudy,
Dark brown in the glass. tawny at the rim, some maroon in the middle. Moderate tears.
    RS: 60g/L

N: Oxidative, VA - vinegar prick, sweet figs, sour raisins, raisinated. Botrytis: no overt botrytis. apricot.
Slight lemon, slight orange peel - dried.
    Complex, developed.

    Palate:
    Sweet - ~60g/L RS.
Medium plus body, diminished alcohol - 11% [actually 10%]
    Elevated acid.
    No phenolic bitterness.
    Primarily savory.

Guess: Non-botrytized dessert wine, around 60 g/L. Possibly passito style, Italian wine?
Has some age, based on color and oxidative aromas, but given the style, this could be part of the winemaking. Maybe 2000?

  • Blind Tasting (San Francisco, CA): From 375. Soaked cork but came out easily with an Ah-so. Color is deep tawny; nose has interesting caramel, figs, toffee, spice; palate is light bodied, some residual sweetness, fruit has faded, slight caramel and toffee, not heavy, has good acidity, midpalate is flat; finish is short-medium. This is an interesting experiment, and it's almost surprising that the wine is still drinkable (and maybe even good in some respects), but obviously past its prime. 86-88

  • Wanted to experiment and try 20 years old local riesling. Cork was saturated and crumbling so had to push it in. Dark mahogany almost malty looking. On the palate it tasted very sweet with notes of aged balsamic vinegar from Modena, flat and turning a bit bitter on the finish. Way past its prime, nonetheless still drinkable.
