World's Greatest, Hong Kong - Night II (Garden Suite, Peninsula Hotel): Somewhere between the ‘55 Haut Brion and the ‘53 Lafite in terms of expression and projection as well as brightness. Lead pencil, graphite, gravel. After very close examination I prefer this the least out of the flight, although it is still great. On the palate this is sweet berry, bright but light. 93-94.

Wine Dinner Extravaganza; 4/21/2017-4/22/2017 (Smyth and The Loyalist - Chicago IL): From 375 ml bottle that seemed in very good shape, open 15-20 minutes before serving. Mature and ripe black fruit that was surprisingly fresh for its age and format. Roasted meat, liqueur and dark chocolate with wonderful balance. A real beauty to start, but less pristine by the final sip.

Annual gathering with Chicago winos in Chicago - Burgs, old Bordeauxs and SQNs (Smyth and The Loyalist - Chicago IL): I drank a bottle in 2005 and thought it was perfect. From a half bottle, explosive ripe nose displaying cassis, dry black fruit, a hint of port, a hint of VA, tobacco, leather, iron, dark caramel and meat. Incredible concentration, layers upon layers of opulent dark fruit, still quite opulent and chewy, bright acidity and a long cassis and tobacco driven finish. Still showing exceptional concentration. Initially thought this could be a fake as the format is odd but the expression and appearance are correct. Really impressive. I would love to try from a bottle or magnum format soon.

A Night of Old Bordeaux at Latour Restaurant, Crystal Spring Resort, Hamburg, NJ - just a hint of VA on the nose along with smoky gravel and road tar. Simply a stunningly complex wine with flavors of sweet black fruits, prunes, gravel and tar. A touch more jammy and less silky than the great '53's tonight but it makes up for it in its complete decadence and kaleidescope of mature Bordeaux flavors. The finish just coats the palate in the classic flavors of this incredible vineyard with notes of chocolate liqueur, sweet charred earth and smoky minerals. This bottle was just a touch behind the perfect bottle I drank two years ago. Wowza!
