  • Day 1- I didn't get it, Day 2- I didn't get it, Day-3 I got it! Finally seeing the hype behind this brand, took a few days to soften and open up enough for my liking but now I get it. This huge (and high alcohol) wine should come with a warning label, takes time to open up (days). Before day 3 it's just too much for me.

  • Brought to restaurant and paired with grilled steak. Super dark, concentrated, and highly perfumed. Lots of licorice and dark fruits with some brambly underbrush and a wiff of smoke. Good minerality shows up to help keep things from becomming overwhelming. Tons of ripe fruit, though not much impression of residual sweetness. Sound structure, low acidity, and massively concentrated. With its firm mid palate, this seems to lack some of the generosity of more recent vintages. Regardless, this is well detailed and excellent for such a massive wine.

  • After a pop and pour this showed a lot of alcohol. 18 hours later this is still a bit one dimensional and lacking fruit. I am going to wait a few years on my last bottle and hope it rounds out.

  • Scott Hawley, the winemaker, indicates that the first day they stayed in their new house on the property, the coyotes let out a blood curdling cry -- a cry like a banshee. The wine begs you to exclaim in a much more positive way. There is a mouthful of black fruit with layers of taste. A wonderful wine that makes me a fan who can't wait to what direction he'll go with future wines!
