I don’t think Thanisch has holdings in Graacher Himmelreich anymore. But 42 years ago they did. Poured a deep tawny - concerning to say the least! Luckily it tasted amazing. Coffee, toffee, preserved apples and apricots. Almost like a baked apricot pie. Acidity has mellowed with age; but the body is still pretty big. An elegant window into the past.

Opened for my 40th dinner with some friends at Peking Duck House. A beautiful, elegant wine. The sweetness and acid in balance with lovely tertiary development of honey, butterscotch. Going back and tasting it at the end of the evening, the wine was still singing. Wow

An immensely enjoyable wine. Incense/furniture wax kind of nose - where the petrol goes when Riesling gets truly mature - then rich, sweet but balanced. Still nice concentrated fruit without being overwhelming. A teeny bit flabbier than a previous bottle of this I think, but quite special. 75 and 76 make an interesting comparison, 75 a bit racier and more focussed but the 76s quite very attractive.

Apple, ginger, spice. Somewhat sweet. Good mid-palate depth with ample fruit. Lacks a bit in acidity imo. 93
