On day 1, this was somewhat disjointed and seemed to be showing its age. It had mature, gamey flavours, but also something less pleasant and I thought it might be slightly faulty. However, by day 2, it had settled down and improved considerably, with redcurrant/cherry fruit and a long finish. Perhaps not as good as the Clos Saint Jacques from the same vintage, at least on this occasion.

Just singing right now, it got much better with time. Seductive dark fruit nose with seemless tannins wonderfully complex, also compared to the 02’ and 17’ BC beze this was the WOTN for quite a few.

Decanted 45 minutes. Intense nose with ripe wild strawberry & rose - lots of secondary Pinot aromas of sous bois and farmyard. Palate is smooth, velvety, rich and subtle. Gentle black cherry with light herbs and a real earthiness - still fresh, with sufficient acidity, alongside incredibly fine tannins. This is exceptional, high quality mature Burgundy. Whilst this will continue to age gracefully, this is absolutely “a point” now. Subtle - wonderful.

Medium Ruby. Floral nose. Great expression of this grand cru. Well preserved fruit and tannins integrated. Very decent finish.
