This player came to the party and danced. Color of tawny pomegranate and an initial nose of raisins and funk gave some concern, but there was some fruit and acidity in the opening that gave hope.
After an hour, the wine materially fleshed out, the pomegranate was complemented by other red fruits and the funk became earth and leather and then the earthy smell of a good leather purse. It became a good, not great, but a good wine with an attitude and a story to tell.
Served with seared duck breast, potatoes, bitter greens and glazed carrots, I also opened a 2015 M Gros Vosne Romanee as a "just in case". In the first hour, the 2015 won the awards for bouquet and balance, but we kept sipping at the 2005 Chassagne who became better and better, gaining freshness and vitality as the evening meal wore on. Freshness, 18 years later.
Nothing profound, just a player from an excellent vintage left to slumber in less-than-perfect, but adequate conditions. For a wine with the last tasting note 11 years ago and a drinking window that closed in 2015, I say "thanks" and "bravo".

Dry with light acidity; pomegranate, black cherry and oddly dirty sock flavor; rubber tire and minerals too; short finish. Pleasant, but nothing exciting even at a reasonable price for Burgundy.

Intense purple-red color reminiscent of a young merlot. Effusive nose of grass, cherries, horse manure, mushrooms, and cola. Excellent ripe fruit on the palate with very good balance but no elegance.
