Community Tasting Notes (8) Avg Score: 90.3 points

  • Blood red; meaty, a touch of mint, hefty ; stubborn tannins, chewy, dark fruit, rugged; forceful & convincingly authentic. Food a necessity. Probably best drunk up, though if fruit holds, this will be still good in a decade.

  • Needs about an hour or so decant. Black fruit on the nose but can also get a very Bordeaux feel. Decently tannic and can hold its age for a while longer in the cellar. Full bodied and excellent for the price point. A crowd pleaser. 92.

  • Just a ton of tannins, still, at this age. Color still quite red. Tastes like a young wine - but I am not convinced there's enough fruit or intensity to balance those tannins over time. I'd be super curious how this tastes in a decade, but truthfully I don't think it's worth holding for that long. Good wine, but not good enough to age for as long as it needs.

EDIT: so 4-5 hours later this did open up a bit. Rummaged around and found some black fruit in there. Good, not great. Not dire, overall judgement holds.

Long. long, long....

  • Dark, of course; meaty, hefty but not overstated, still not fully opened but dark fruits lurking, no intrusive oak; tannins integrated, substantial, brooding, more to come; in terms of Madiran could almost be described as polished. Impressive, a welcome antithesis to modernity & flash.
