Aerate to decanter. Color garnet with some dark hues making it darker than expected, cloudy, medium-plus body. Initially tight bouquet gives way to farmland clay, chestnuts, and earth on top of strawberries and raspberries. On the tongue, incredibly tight focused sour cherries and unripe strawberries mixed with twigs, dry earth, and tobacco. Medium finish includes earth, minerals, and coffee intermixed with sour cherries. High acid and medium-plus tannins are so youthful it's like this was bottled yesterday. Over a four hour period, this opened up to reveal fuller cherries underneath earth tones, but only slightly. Also not much more open on Day 2 in terms of bouquet, and fruit less prominent on taste. A good Burg experience, but not particularly memorable. I suppose typical for a tag of 40.
