  • BLACKBERRIES, CHERRIES, LICORICE AND SOME EARTHINESS IN THE NOSE AND FLAVOR. MEDIUM TO LONG FINISH.

  • Indulgent, ripe and richly rewarding from the moment unscrewed. An impressive balance of fruit and oak, then a jammy/berry sunami with hints of spice in the mouth straight through to a lengthy finish that is fairly astonishing for what I would consider to be a medium-bodied wine. My favorite Villa Creek (thus far).

Happy to report that on day two, there's been no diminution in power but an impressive increase in compelxity, exhibiting wonderful notes of smoke, bacon fat and black cherries -- a real treat.

  • Deep, dark maroon color. Blackberries, Asian spices, dark chocolate, minerals, underbrush, and some smoked meat on the very enticing nose. Fairly full bodied with solid, ripe tannins and very nice acidity. Big, rich, and bold fruit and spice on the palate with some nice earthiness coming in on the backend. Long finish which adds a nice dark chocolate element. I really like this wine, outstanding effort.

  • We were doing a vertical this evening (served with a succulent prime rib, garlic mashed potatoes, and roasted brussel sprouts with pancetta - everything's better with pancetta) of Villa Creek High Road - 2006, 2007, & 2008. Pulled from the wine refrigerator and popped and poured using a funnel. Wow! Grenache, syrah, mourvedre blend (50% Grenache, 30% syrah, 20% mourvedre). The syrah gives it just a hint of spiciness, but just a hint, and the mourvedre is in the background combining nicely with the fruitiness of the grenache. This is a dark, opaque wine that is drinking beautifully right now! Still lots of fruit, but oh-so smooth yet enough backbone to make me wonder what this would've tasted like in a few years. Stems up!

  • Fun night doing a vertical tasting of High Road -popped and poured the 2006. It's fruity on the nose and smoooth, soft fruit on the palate. Stems up!
