  • Nicely aged with mixed red & black currant and cherry notes. Tertiary notes of earth, herb and tea coming through. Integrated medium acid and medium-plus tannins; should continue to drink well for several years but why wait?

  • someone needed to take one for the team. Pobega was not available, so it was left on us to do what it takes to enter the BD, and we opened this napa yummy bottle. Good for the storm, and for all weather conditions. For the details: What does one want from a good cab?
One can go by the list--
Aroma- of course, great nose right from the opening. Berries (blackberry?) and lots of the berries fruit. On the spices- peppers. On the wood, cedar. Heavier oak than the younger wines of Jean Edwards. Certainly developed more earthy tastes and secondary notes.
Very big on the nose (even now, about 4 hours after the bottle was opened).

So, what does one need from a good cab?
Aging potential, balance and harmony, good QPR, and that one thing I can't explain- a 'signature line' that goes across all wines of the wine maker. So, it has it all, in a steal price range. Glad we have some nice range of Jean Edwards wines. Everything for every mood.

The only other note I had was that the bottle had slightly more sediments than I anticipated.

    Day two/three update:

As good as day one, maybe even slightly better on the nose. Even somehow more balanced on the nose. We decanted it last night, while also tasting, and before we went to sleep put it back in the bottle, and recorked (it stayed covered near the window all night and day).
I would say that if all Jean Edwards wines would age gracefully as this one,
the clients and winemakers would have many years to enjoy them. Finish gets longer, more earthy notes come up, and it requires shorter decant.

Overall, one of the best 'steals'. Quality is well above the range of similarly priced CA Cabs (and drinks very well compare to other '06s we had from the region)

  • Wow this is good...wish I had more, in another 5 or 10 years this will be a great bottle! Beautiful aromatics, taste blackberries and cassis with a hint of tart fruit and spices. Tannin adds grip and the acidity makes for a long and delicious finish. If you want to know what Cabernet tastes like...try this!
