Slightly murky light red. Nice elegant floral nose with red cherry, orange zest and balsamic notes. Dry floral cherry flavours and very nice fuzzy tannins.

No question that this probably showed more fruit a few years ago. That said, it was still very much alive, if heavily savory. Black olives initially, probably owing to sulfur blowing off. After, lots of dried cherries, dried mushrooms, licorice, mint, a bit of tar, a hint of orange pith as it develops in the glass. Still a pleasant tannic grip on the finish, which suggests it can go longer, but I’m not really confident there’s much development left. Nose begins to fade after about three or four hours open. Delicious.

This bottle was in a great spot tonight. The nose had a beacon of ripe strawberry and cherry, red flowers, mint and VA. On the palate that strawberry and cherry becomes more tart and dried, but was complemented with earthy and mushroom notes. The acid and tannin are more integrated than on young Barbaresco, but both still seem to be medium plus to high. For my personal taste, this Barbaresco is at the perfect age...If I waited any longer on this bottle I feel I would risk the fruit fading more and the mushroom notes becoming more pronounced. There is also only faint whiff of balsamic on the nose, and any more of that note would subtract from this wine.
