Opened at OMG Wine Dinner: lovely soft, supple. Some dark fruit, mostly tertiary development. Light and elegant, soft but still had medium body and well balanced. Just lovely.

A fully mature Montelena. At or slightly past its prime. Minimal bricking a the edge. Floral, black fruit, cassis, tobacco, slight herbal, spicy, forest floor aromas. Black fruit, leather, earth, cedar, tobacco, cassis, slight floral, some herbalness. Still has great balance. Long, silky smooth finish. A nice wine, but clearly overshadowed by 1984, 1986 and 1987. 1985 has too much bottle variation.
