  • Nice nose off the bat but like many of the wines I've had by this producer, they go through a "wet amphibian" stage about five minutes after opening the bottle. It is off-putting but blows off. Unfortunately the wine's good stage is short lived and isn't memorable. Drink now if you have. Otherwise, Pass.

  • Wet cardboard on the nose. Something was off on this bottle.

  • Color: Halfway between ruby and maroon.

Nose: Clean and pure, with cherry, raspberry, and a sweet whiff of blueberry, alongside a heady perfume of fresh roses, kirsch, cassis, and sweet toasty vanilla from the oak. Very pleasant, with good intensity and expression if not a lot of complexity.

    Mouthfeel: Medium bodied and firm.

Palate: Way more backbone than you'd expect from the nose, with sour cherry, cranberry, and raspberry flavors hiding behind firm tannin, some greenness, and a dose of wood. It finishes bone dry and with decent length, leaving astringent black tea, bitter cranberry, and big rough tannins.

This is not ready. Based on the nose and the structure, I think this will be a very good wine, but it needs a least a few more years and will probably keep getting better for a decade or so. Decant if you are going to drink it now. My score is for its potential.

  • 13%. Dark red, ruby rim. Lifted red cherry, vanilla, blueberry. Powdery tannins, still in balance. 20-30 sec finish. Not much evolution here. Still a good quaffer; will do good service as a lunchtime claret.

  • From a set aside 375ml. This was very good. Went well with prime rib roast.Lighter in texture, with brighter, sweeter, fruit than the 04 Potensac we had at the same time. Based on this bottle, I suggest decanting or a good bottle shaking before drinking.
