I bought one of the last cases of this wine available at the winery as the Girard Family was exiting the scene and a seemingly rocky transition to Rudd Estate was underway...so I can't help being a little sentimental. I'm down to a handful of bottles and I don't know if the wine ever has tasted as wonderful as it did the first time I tried it on the deck off the beautiful tasting room that was surprisingly being closed by the new owner. It is still big, brooding, and not all that approachable right upon opening - big tannins and some oak and tobacco overwhelm at first. However, over several hours as air works this beautiful dark purple wine it allows deep black fruit flavors to emerge and dominate. There is still something special lurking within this little bit of Napa nostalgia...

Not as much sediment as I expected from a 15 year old wine. Prior comments are accurate -- decent wine with fruit still evident, but nothing too impressive. Grapy aftertaste.

Decent but not great. Somewhat muted with licorice, black currants and tobacco. Medium-bodied, it's kind of rough in the mouth, even 10 years out of the barrel. Not exceptionally deep but not unpleasant with black cherry, cedar and anise. Fairly short finish with dusty tannins. Tough to get too excited about it.
