Coonawarra Roadshow (Ivy, George Street, Sydney): Needs air - it's a bit funky and farty on the nose. In the mouth it is hot and oakily spicy; the fruit has faded almost completely and there are massive drying tannins that close everything down Over extraction anyone? Perhaps with a double decant and a bit of time something might happen though I doubt it.

Quite musty at first but the cork looked and smelled good and after an hour or so in the decanter, started to open up. Initial strong impressions of light wood flavours, slightly mossy and earthy, not unpleasantly so. There is spiciness too, and smooth blackcurrant, maybe some ripe cherry. The tiniest hint of liquorice? The fruitiness eases away reasonably quickly but the wood, moss and spice linger quite a while, pleasantly. I opened this because I was concerned it had been kept in less than ideal conditions and suspected it may be damaged goods, but it has survived well and is a pleasant drink.
