The first truly compelling wine that I have tasted from Zind-Humbrecht and I do not believe that it is a coincidence that it is also the oldest... Amazingly intense and interesting nose; clearly on the very evolved side yet holding together with no problems. The acid/sweetness balance is spot on and the wine shows a very long and clean finish. Which Z-H wine to try next?

Dinner with friends (My house): Some pine-sol, honey, and butterscotch on the nose - comes across as too old to me. Actually a very nice palate. Mature with a full, oily, thick texture. Tropical fruits and some Gewürztraminer character remain. Finishes nicely with a good balanced acidity. Attractive old wine, expressive and interesting.

Yowza. Intense nose with Gewürz florals and Goldert stone and power. Nicely balanced sweetness upfront, but held in check with an austerity and mineral tightness. Goldert brings a very much needed precision to Gewürz's tendency to run amok. Long finish with orchids, tropical fruits and fleshy notes. Wonderful.
