Wine opened tight, acidic, little fruit, and heavy cedar notes. Surprising as this wine and vineyard was my favorite from the White Rose 2006 vintage. However, after an hour and a half, it opened up to nice crushed rose pedals, some cassis, cedar notes still there but less pronounced. Please decant for at least an hour....

Standard Market had the Copper River at $15.99 per pound, so what can one do? Another opportunity to evaluate the White Rose holdings: comparing the Maresh from '06. A couple of years ago at the vineyard one of the (newly uniformed) hostesses pronounced these were "falling off the table." I am happy to inform that this is not the case at all.
Clear red with a hint of brick and slightly pale rim. Explosive funk with slightly resinous, spicy component. Moderate acid, distinct volcanic minerality, structure, tart cherries, good length. You could hold for a while.

no signs of age. Very savory, but with good fruit too. I expected more alcohol given the vintage but it was in check. Light on the tannins. Drink now and over the next few years.

2012 Cellar Cleaning - Take 1: Opened this today in the middle of a cellar housecleaning to see if I would renew the club shipment from this winery. I actually wanted to dislike this wine, in order to make my decision easier. Some lists/clubs need to be culled.
But I do like this wine. Quite a bit. On the nose, a pleasant mix of sweet fruits and Oregon funk, with some resin and forest floor thrown in. More of the same on a medium bodied palate. Finish is medium length, and remains somewhat tannic. If I had more of this, I'd save it for another couple of years, at which point it could be truly stunning assuming the tannins fade away a bit to lengthen out the finish.
