The days were warmer than average in 2005 but the nights far colder, allowing the grapes to mature slowly with none of the excesses of 2003. Because of the very dry summer, berries tended to be small with deep skins, giving a very high tannin content, often the highest ever. Acidity was fair - higher than in 2003 but less than in 1998 or 1996 - aiding balance, and thanks to a level of viticulture and vinification in Saint-Emilion that has never been higher, overall quality was very good.

This bottle was great. Had the first one two years ago and was disappointed Not this time. About an hour decant. Dark fruit on the nose. very soft on the palette. Not as concentrated as some, but really nice velvet feel.

Too much toasted oak in there, and doesn't lend for a balanced drink. However, there are hidden flavors of dark berries, coffee, pencil lead. Has a lifted character and finishes long. This isn't for everyone. Just too much oak. 85 Pts. Paco 2012_04_08

Beautiful bottle, sweet cherry and hint of earth. Still at early stage of peak and believe will get more mature in coming few years.
Medium Plus body.
