The nose was dark and brooding with crushed blueberry, black cherry, baking spices, violet candies, grilled herbs, and moist soil. It crashed against the palate like a velvet wave with sappy black fruits and intense concentration. It was a big, full-bodied wine, which almost crossed the line into hedonism, yet managed stay rooted in reality through balanced acidity and cheek grabbing tannin. The finish showed floral tones, wild berry and smoked meats with a hint of heat, yet lasted long.
This wine was a brute which would do well against a grilled Porterhouse steak or possibly even a light bodied cigar. The nose and finish were fantastic but the palate left a little to be desired. That said, it peaked my interest enough to seek out other wines from Quoin Rock.
