  • What a disappointment. I love the white wines of the Loire Valley, and, while I realize Chenin Blanc tends to the sweeter side with high acidity, this wine was nothing but a syrupy, sugary mess. No notes of honey, nut, apple, spice or anything but sugar water. Surprisingly, the longer I iced the wine, the more palatable it became. Anyway, purchased one bottle on the recommendation of a local wine shop I like and they have been spot on so far on their Loire white recommendations. Hoping this was just an anomaly.

  • I'm not going to be able to do this one justice, but here goes... nose started off funky and musty, definitely thought TCA, but it subsided with a little swirling and warming. Still quite an unusual nose though, with honeydew melon, earth and a hint of jalapeno pepper. On the palate this is viscous but not syrupy, lush and a bit sweet in the midpalate but finishing with nice acidity, minerality and a bit of earth. I'm not very experienced with chenin, so maybe this is a usual wine, but it has me perplexed. Not sure if I like it, not sure what food I would pair it with. I'll return to this note if I figure anything else out during the last two glasses...

  • Ross brings some wines from JDH (Jeff's Office): What an interesting wine. Never would have guessed Vouvray or even Chenin on the funktastic nose. This is wild stuff. Tons of earthy components on both the nose and palate. A little sweetness on the palate. Just crazy. This is someone who is just doing his own thing.

  • This Chenin Blanc is definitely on the sweet side of the curve, but the acid level was high enough to work with the meal. We had cod and scallops flavored with lots of butter and snap peas with a little soy sauce. The sweetness worked well with this meal. This wine would not really be attractive on its own. I think there are many potential food matches, which would lead to 1 + 1 > 2.

  • Not very impressive; over-fruited.

(Domaine du Viking Vouvray Tendre Sec) COLOR-golden; NOSE-a wild nose; quite herbaceous (basil, fennel); just straight up herbs; PALATE-the greenness follows through on the palate; may be a flawed bottle (I will re-taste); an English pea and brussel sprout component which I love for my palate (but not for the masses); I will re-taste this but; WS-89; GV-No Score (may be flawed)
