Decanted 1 hour prior to a joint 60th birthday celebration meal. Unexpectedly fresh and young for a 1957, with a garnet hue and heavy sediment (as expected). Took several additional minutes in the glass for a nose to develop, first with prune and figs, moving to dried cherry and some floral overtones. Wine is totally integrated and well-structured. I believe it will hold for at least another 10 years. Finish is moderate, lasting about 20-25 seconds, with a very silky mouth feel.
Maybe it was the occasion or perhaps this wine has held up even better than the more acclaimed 1955.

Keith's Blind Challenge (The Square, London): Keith's Blind Challenge. Mid browny-garnet. Quite a burgundian nose but really too oxidised.
