  • Orange/tawny color.
Nose was a bit shy, but pretty.
Palate is very tasty with lovely balance. Some sweetness, with strong acidity and complex flavors of candied nuts, hazelnuts. Very long finish. Really quite yummy.

  • This is a wonderful madeira. Clear light mahogany appearance. Raisin and prune nose. So smooth. Raisin and prune light flavor with a tinge of camphor after open one hour. Gains weight and density with aereation. Very interesting mouth feel that lasts and lasts on both the mid tongue and palate and even the soft palate. I taste the salt others experienced but not the toffee mentioned by some. I would have loved to taste this side by side with another varietal to compare the flavor profile but this terrantez offering is superb. Now 90 minutes and I am getting more caramel notes so perhaps that is the toffee previously mentioned? This wine has sweetness but it is so versatile that it could be a great aperitif not just a closer. Loving it! This was a gift from a friend 15-18 years ago so thanks Joseph!

  • This is from an 80 y.o. lost barrel from the 1930's tasted with the Broadbent importer rep. this may be a different bottle from those below. Burnt marmalade, burnt honey, nettles-herbal note with very high acid. joy to drink, focused like a laser beam, intense, and still young.

  • Buckwheat, candied orange jam, dried mushrooms which all follow on the palate and lead to an intense, bright, almost vinegar-like high level acidity. What a wine. There isn't enough.

  • The most noble and alive of old Madeiras tasted recently when reps brought some by after the NYC tasting. Have been watching Terence Malik lately; finally tasting again at home this makes me imagine one of his whisper voice-overs "when did you come to me...?". This is saline, toffee, alive, alive alive! So delicious! Undatable and found in an attic (or some other hidden property storage area, can't recall exactly) this is just an unbelievable thing to drink and behold. Very fresh and addictive. Cocoa surfaces from beneath a saline, leathery, fruity toffee fresh core. Impossible to stop drinking.
