Closed nose upon decanting. Green stalks, black fruits, tellicherry pepper and cinnamon on the nose as this Simi opened over 2 hours. Contrary to previous reviews, I found this wine to still have plenty of fruit and the color was a beautiful red black with little signs of browning. Drinking beautifully at 31 years as the tannins have softened and the fruits have sweetened to light carmel, eucalyptus, and blackberry buckle.

Color showed a relatively young wine perhaps a decade a most. Gave it an hour to breath. Some Eucalyptus and sweet Oak to go with sweet black fruits. Very smooth. An extra point for ageworthiness.

Old and smoky, opening up after decanting 90 minutes to older and smokier and more flavorful. Fruit has gone, but still elegant -- an old dowager, past her prime but still an attractive reminder of what she once was. No regrets.
