Reds at Dave's: Wow, was this impressive. Soaring nose of sour cherry, earth and smoke -- really special. Siggy felt it was likely a result of whole cluster fermentation which makes sense to me. Showing equally well on the palate with great weight, excellent balance/structure and good flavor intensity. I've never heard of this producer, but if this wine is any indication it's a winery I should get to know better.

Overall this wine has a nicely integrated nose and tastes of dark fruit, fall spices and smoked meat. On the nose we are getting a mild but pleasant maple syrup, applewood smoked meat. Predominately fruit flavor of black raspberry with smoke meat, rich pumpkin pie spices and mild integrated tannins. While this is presently our last bottle of the '05, it would be interesting to try this wine in a few years to see if how the predominate fruit flavor gives way to the earthy undertones.

A wonderful Syrah with baked spicy plum and prune on the nose and palate with clove and earth flavors that ride on soft vanilla notes that leave a nice lingering cherry finish. This wine is so yummy right now but should develop nicely over the next few years.
