Plum, cherry and blackberry. Dark rust brick color. With a 50 point base, earns 4 of 5 for nose, 21 of 25 for fruit/flavor intensity, 8 of 10 for taste characteristics, 4 of 5 for balance and 4 of 5 for finish. Definitely a fabulous rioja and amazingly good without decanting - immediately after opening. I wish this wasn't my last bottle.

Nice brick red at the edges, looks its age. Bright cherry nose and very spicy woodiness, some funk that adds interest. On the palate zingy fresh acidity, quite supple, with intriguing spice box flavors, cinnamon, clove, with the wood, the aroma and finish bring sandalwood to mind. Pretty unusal, and enjoyable, not up there with the great 96 gran reservas that are peaking now, but nice.

I couldn't believe how smoothe this was right of the bat, with no air time.... over an hour or so more fruit exposed itself. I think a rather A-typical Rioja - as it wasn't spicy at all, slight lack of structure...had no funk or barnyard...but overall a fantastic overall wine for $22. I would easily buy again as anyone who is a red wine fan would enjoy this...

Spectacular example of a grand reserva rioja. Well structured, balanced. Hints of spice and cocoa.
